This year, all first-year students will be reading The Glass Castle, a memoir by Jeannette Walls. The book details her childhood, dealing with her eccentric and neglectful parents, being uprooted numerous times, and living in poverty. Despite all of the hardships she and her siblings endured, Walls loved her parents unconditionally, and used her experiences as motivation to create a successful life for herself. The Glass Castle has been a New York Times bestseller for over three years, and has won numerous awards. The book has sold more than 2.5 million copies in the United States alone, and has been translated into twenty-two languages. Students are expected to read this book before arriving at Michigan Tech for Orientation. Information will be sent to you in June with all of the summer reading details. You may purchase this book online and have it mailed directly to you from the Michigan Tech Bookstore by visiting their website at www.bookstore.mtu.edu or from your favorite local or online book seller. |
