Reading as Inquiry @ Michigan Tech, 2011

Thank you for volunteering for the Reading as Inquiry initiative. We appreciate the commitment of such a diverse group of people not only to the importance of reading and the role it plays in a successful college career, but also to the importance of actively helping to welcome our new students into the broader Michigan Tech community. We look forward to working with you to make this a successful and rewarding experience.

The 90-minute discussion groups are scheduled for Wednesday, August 24, at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. You will receive a confirmation letter in early August containing information concerning your discussion location, the major(s) of the students in your group, as well as the name and email address for your co-facilitators.

Expectations of Discussion Sessions

  • Facilitators and students will adequately prepare themselves and familiarize themselves with the book. This means reading the book, and looking for points to bring up in the discussion.
  • Discussion leaders and students will engage in intellectual conversation, where different perspectives are welcomed and encouraged.
  • While study questions are provided as a guide, facilitators and students are encouraged to formulate their own questions related to the book.
