Assistant Professor of French Search

Michigan Technological University, Department of Humanities

The Department of Humanities invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in French to begin fall 2010. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate instruction and a willingness to teach French language, literature and culture at all levels. Candidates will also teach in the department's interdisciplinary M.S. and Ph.D. programs in Rhetoric and Technical Communication. The usual tenure-track teaching load is 2 courses (6 hrs.) per semester. The preferred candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: Francophone Studies; applied linguistics; business and professional French; multimedia instructional technologies. Candidates should have a demonstrable record of teaching excellence; scholarly promise; and native or near-native fluency in French. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in French or a closely related field, or expect to receive the Ph.D. by July 1, 2010.

The Humanities Department offers Minors and International Minors in French, German, and Spanish and a Minor in Diversity Studies. Our undergraduate programs include Communication and Culture Studies and Scientific and Technical Communication. The department's programs provide faculty with unique opportunities to teach and engage in research that benefits from an intellectually rich, multidisciplinary environment.
