Portable Technology
Available for Checkout

The CCLI has made a considerable investment in portable technology equipment that is available for check-out to Humanities Department students and students enrolled in computer-intensive courses.

Kim Puuri is the instructional technology coordinator. If you need laptops, projectors, digital cameras, etc., she is the person to contact (kjpuuri@mtu.edu). Below is listed the equipment available and the directions for checking it out.

 

The following is a of the list equipment we have available as of Fall 2006:

Laptops

  1. Mac G3 Powerbook with CD/DVD drive and removable 100 ZIP drive
  2. IBM Thinkpad with swappable CD and 3.5" floppy drive and external ZIP.
  3. IBM Thinkpad with CD drive and external ZIP.

Projectors/Projection Cart

  1. One 800x600 resolution Boxlight projector.
  2. Titanium cart with Mac G4 Titanium (with CD/DVD drive and external ZIP) laptop and 1028x768 resolution boxlight.

Digital Cameras

  1. Kodak DC50 (The Beast), uses memory cards(incl.), mounts as a drive on PC/Mac; lower quality
  2. Kodak DC280, uses memory cards (incl.), mounts as a drive on PC/Mac
  3. Sony Mavica (Floppy), user supplies floppy disks (must be PC formatted), floppies insert directly into floppy drives on PCs (and Macs)
  4. Sony Mavica (minidisc), users supplies mini-CD-Rs, mounts on PCs easily.
  5. Sony Cybershot, uses Flash stick (incl.), and mounts on Macs easily.

Video Cameras

  1. Sony Hi-8 *Analog* Video Camera (user must supply own Hi-8 tape)
  2. Sharp *Digital* video camera, uses mini-DV cassettes (user supplies own), connects with Firewire to Macs.
  3. Sony *Digital* video Camera, uses Hi-8 cassettes (user supplies own), connects with Firewire to Macs.

Directions

  1. Email Kim Puuri (kjpuuri@mtu.edu) and request what equipment you need, and for how long. Be as specific with what equipment you need and/or what you need it for so that she can get you the right items.
  2. Kim will email you to let you know if the equipment is actually available at that date/time. If you do not receive an email from her, you should attempt to contact her again.
  3. Remember: 48-HOUR NOTICE IS REQUIRED FOR ALL EQUIPMENT CHECKOUTS!
  4. Once you have received confirmation that the equipment is available, Kim will make arrangements with you regarding pick-up and return of the equipment. Consultants cannot hand out equipment, so you must make arrangements with her to get the items that you need.
  5. When you return the equipment, please make sure that all the cords,
    drives, batteries, etc., are in the correct bags. The equipment for each
    bag is listed inside the bag.


Reminders

  1. 48-HOUR NOTICE IS REQUIRED ON ***ALL*** EQUIPMENT CHECKOUTS. If you
    know further in advance, let Kim know further in advance.
  2. If you have any questions regarding how equipment works, Kim can help you. It is a good idea to make sure that you have a solid understanding of how the equipment works BEFORE you get it in front of your class.
  3. If you have any problems with the equipment (like broken or missing components) please notify Kim as soon as possible. Problems cannot be fixed if she isn't made aware that they exist.
