Facilities & Resources

Humanities Digital Media Zone (HDMZ)
(combined CCLI and Modern Language Lab)

The HDMZ is a computing, language resource and media production facility on the first floor of the Walker Arts and Humanities Building (enter through Walker 113 and 117). It includes the computer lab serving Humanities majors and graduate students, as well as students registered in computer-intensive Humanities and Modern Language courses. Humanities faculty and graduate students may also reserve areas of the HDMZ for some courses, workshops and meetings.

Humanities students and those in computer-intensive HU courses have 24/7 swipe-card access to the HDMZ during the semester. Modern Language students have access to the lab during the hours when consultants are on duty (see below) and should sign in with a consultant when using the lab.

Please note that the Walker Building is locked at 11 p.m.

Equipment includes both PCs (Windows) and Macs (Apple OSX) loaded with the latest versions of both industry-standard (Adobe CS3 suite, MS Office 2007 suite, Apple's iLife, iWork, and Quicktime) and open-source design and production software (Audacity, VLC, GIMP, etc.). For a current list, broken down by PC and Mac, see our Complete Software Inventory. The lab also offers flatbed and slide-scanners, CD and DVD burners, digital cameras and digital video cameras, digital sound recorders, and black-and-white and color laser printers. [For a list of software available in the CCLI, our softare inventory breaks.
