Jingfang Ren's research interests include technical communication theory and practice, rhetorical theory, visual rhetoric, research design, and intercultural communication. She is currently working on a qualitative meta-analysis of research in professional and technical writing from 1970 to 2006, which uses a revised form of the Burkean dramatistic pentad to make comparisons across studies using markedly different methodological approaches, including qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods.
