Welcome to the Humanities Associate Degree Program web page at Michigan Technological University!

The Humanities program at Michigan Technological University is a two year associates degree program in which students learn many skills to aid them during a career. Students take courses that will make them well-rounded and will prepare them for advanced training in medicine, law and other disciplines. The program emphasizes courses such as philosophy, communication, literature, visual and performing arts, linguistics, technology and rhetoric, as well as science, math and the social sciences.

This degree provides a solid foundation for a bachelor's program or serves as a path to the workplace.

What else does Michigan Tech offer?

An advantage this program has at Michigan Tech is that we share a building with the Fine Arts Department, so students can gain experience through acting, chorus, orchestra, band, improvisation, and jazz ensemble. The Walker Arts and Humanities Center also houses the Center for Computer-Aided Language Instruction, which provides new computer technology that can be applied to your degree; a state-of-the-art blackbox theater; a photo lab; and an art studio.

A short distance from campus are the downtowns of Hought on and Hancock, with the latter featuring the Finnish-American Heritage Center. Within easy driving distance is the historic Calumet Theater, which, in cooperation with the University, provides opportunities for cultural experiences through performances by many professional groups, including the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and The Acting Company.

MTU is located on the scenic shores of Lake Superior and offers a wide variety of outdoor sports for all seasons, from swimming and hiking to snowshoeing or downhill skiing at nearby Mont Ripley.
