Welcome
to the Undergraduate Programs in the Department of Humanities
We
offer a variety of Bachelor degree programs, including Scientific and
Technical Communication, Communication and Cultural studies, Liberal Arts, English, and English Education.
We also have an Associates degree program in Humanities, a Pre-Law emphasis,
and an array of new Minors. Check out the Programs link above
to find out more.
Technical Communicators
make scientific, technical, and practical information available to a variety
of audiences in a variety of media such as paper, video, multimedia, and
the World Wide Web. They also manage communication processes within organizations
and represent those organizations to a wider public through multiple means
of communication.
The
major in Communication
and Cultural Studies offers a unique, interdisciplinary focus with strong training in traditional communication skills, cultural
knowledge and sensitivity, and a global perspective. Students learn the complexities and possibilities of communication, including familiarity with a second
language and culture, so that they are well prepared to take up leadership positions in their communities, country, and the world.
The
Liberal Arts program offers a wide range of courses in many fields
which allows you the opportunity to shape your degree schedule based on
your interests and goals. Courses in Philosophy, Literature, Modern Languages,
Communication, Art, Speech, and Psychology will help you to prepare for
a career in any field or to ready you for advanced study in medicine,
law, education, or information technology.
In this department you will learn to be an enterprising thinker, communicator,
leader and manager. Graduates from these programs have accepted positions
with companies such as Rollerblade, IBM, Ford, Unisys, Land's End, and
the Discovery Channel.
