Communication & Culture Studies
The major in Communication and Culture Studies (CCS) is interdisciplinary in nature and focuses on the cultural contexts of communication. Students learn how communication works and why it matters. Students also develop skills in speaking, writing, and media, including familiarity with a second language and culture, so that they are well prepared to take up leadership positions in their communities, country, and world.
Beyond enriching your everyday understanding of communication, the B.A. in Communication & Culture Studies prepares you to enter the changing world of work. Employers increasingly demand strong communication skills, the organizational savvy these skills provide, cultural knowledge and sensitivity, and a global perspective. Contemporary careers increasingly foreground these skills and capabilities. The Communication and Culture Studies Major offers three concentrations for the bachelor's degree:
The 18 credit Minor in Communication Studies provides focused study of a wide array of communication practices, traditions, theories, and issues. For more information, you may make an appointment to speak with Advisor Patty Sotirin.
