Placement Test
At the beginning of the semester, students take a placement test and are placed in the appropriate level of courses. The placement test includes listening comprehension, grammar, vocabulary and reading comprehension. A short interview is conducted to test speaking fluency.
Students are registered for IESL courses through the Office of Student Records and Registration and the Humanities Department.
The classes are small. Class sizes vary depending on the level with some as low as 6. The maximum class size for IESL is 15, and that is usually at the Advanced and Transitional levels. Transitional level students may take one or more academic classes. Advising for these courses is provided by both the IESL program and the academic department’s advisor.
