Roxane Gay Chosen to Speak to State Legislature

Roxane Gay, a Ph.D. student specializing in Technical Communication, has been chosen as one of six graduate students representing MTU during Graduate Education Week at the State Capitol Building in Lansing. Ms. Gay will report to state representatives and government officials on her research into how engineers are constructed as writers.

Enterprise Wins Sustainable Futures Institue Award

The Department's Professional Communication Arts Enterprise won the Sustainable Futures Institute Research Projects Poster Session's Peoples Choice Award.

RTC Graduate Student Receives Award

Rhetoric and Technical Communication graduate student Roxane Gay received the Council for Programs in Technical and Scientific Communication's Diversity Award Scholarship at its annual conference in Minneapolis. Chosen from a highly qualified group of applicants, Roxane is the first to receive this award. Fellow RTC Graduate Students Jim Nugent, Erik Hayenga, Laurence José, and Jim and Casey Rudkin presented papers and chaired panels as well.

Professional Communication Arts Enterprise Retreat

The Department's Professional Communication Arts Enterprise held its yearly retreat today at the Marsin Nature Retreat Center to plan for the year's work, projects, and professional development activities. The team also uses the retreat to welcome new members, who represent several Humanities undergraduate programs and other majors across campus.

STC Program Wins Certificate of Excellence
September, 2004

The Scientific and Technical Communication Program has won the Council of College Composition and Communication's Certificate of Excellence. The STC program is one of only three such programs to have received this award in the past five years.
