Engineering at Western University or engineering at Michigan Tech? Holding
acceptance letters from both, how in the world was I supposed to chose
the path I wanted to take for the rest of my life, just like that? Well, Western was definitely closer to home, and close to a lot of my friends. Why would I want to drive 10 hours into nowhere? Something about Michigan Tech was screaming “New Experiences Everywhere!!” There would be harsh winters, long drives home, vast wilderness, and no malls!! Nonetheless, how could I pass that up? One of my good friends from high school also decided to head up to the great white Upper Peninsula once high school was finished. We had talked about going to school together before, and we both had similar aspirations. I suppose I thought that going to this “foreign” place with someone I knew so well would ease the “foreign-ness” of college. The summer flew by, the fall semester of my freshman year of college approached, I kept feeling like I was about to make an enormous mistake. Just the thought of if being that far from home, my friends, family, and civilization made college seem like a dark cloud that I’d have to live under for the next four years of my life. |
