The Me 262 was the first production jet fighter in the world. It was a product of the Messerschmitt company and was used solely by the Luftwaffe.
The P-47 Thunderbolt was the first fighter deployed to the European Theatre by the American Army Air Corp. This aircraft was of a conventional design but it had heavy armor and armerment. It was the heaviest single engine fighter of the war. The guns it sported were 8 .50 caliber machineguns four to a wing.
