Troupe Performs at Calumet Theatre's Family/Children Series
- The Troupe is an award-winning acting/improvisational ensemble composed of Michigan Tech students, both graduate and undergraduate, majoring in a variety of disciplines. They are directed by Fine Arts associate professor Dr. Sue Stephens.
- The group has been in existence for five years, during which time they have played to thousands of children and adults in Michigan and Wisconsin. "Trip Leader Tales," "Grandma's Attic," and "Circus of the Imagination" are pieces which have been scripted by the ensemble and performed at both local and regional schools. "The Brown Bottle," "Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are," (published by the Hazeldon Foundation) "Please Come Home," and "I Know the World's Worst Secret" (adapted from Heart to Heart) have been adopted by the Troupe with the publisher's permission and have been played ot hundreds of students. These adaptations are "issue" pieces dealing with such subjects as substace abuse, divorce, and eating disorders, while the original scripts are transformed to entertain through physical and imaginative audience participation.
- The Troupe also leads workshops in improvisation and creative drama for adults and children and has scripted/performed in a video regarding date/acquaintance rape for Counseling Services at Michigan Tech.
- This year's children's show focuses on a child who experiences the usual hurts of growing up -- peer rejection and problems with self-esteem. Because the girl gets help from her stuffed animal collection, some of whom have very creative solutions, the show entertains as it reaches the audience.
