The Troupe! BATHROOM

Games, Schmames!

MASKS:
This is an exercise in characterization and improvisation. The students are asked to choose a mask from both real-life masks as well as Commedia Del Arte style, and asked not to put them on until directed to do so. They should be asked to go to a mirror and examine their own faces and that of the mask, once again without putting on the mask. The director should ask them to find a person or personality of which it reminds them, and see if that character fits. After all of the instructions are given, the students should be allowed to but the masks on in their own time. The director should tell the students to move about the space and to feel the character, finding its characteristics, emotions and physical quirks without interacting with the other students. After they have had enough time to experiment, they should be allowed to interact freely.

Note: Once again, this is an exercise that should bring about real emotion, and should be monitored closely. Discussion afterward on the characters the students found and what the students felt while wearing different masks is very important.

Our very own Chuck "Let's Do The Twist" Charbeneau wrote this game description!
