(Older) Current Events (at least in 2003 it was current)
Recently I participated in the Toccoa Christmas parade with Keep Toccoa
Stephens County Beautiful. Our board has made a tradition out of
handing out litterbags as we march through the parade route. The kids
use the litterbags to hold their candy (thrown from floats) and
wrappers. We ask the adults to keep the bags in their cars. We hand out
a few thousand bags each year.
KTSCB has made a
tradition of handing out litterbags at the parade to encourage people
not to throw their candy wrappers on the ground. (Pictured from left

One of the things I like best about small town life (Toccoa has a
population of about 10,000) is the town festival. Toccoa has several a
year. Recently Toccoa had a Christmas Fest. The downtown area was
filled with bundled up Toccoans braving the cold for a sip of hot cider
and the chance to hear the "living tree" sing all the holiday
favorites.
Santa arrived at the
Christmas Fest in a sled pulled by real reindeer. All the kids ran to
the fat guy in the red suit, but I know this guy, who was just hanging
around the reindeer, was the Real
santa. He was very happy to have his picture taken as he pet the
critters.
