Vicky Bergvall's current research focuses on two primary areas: gender and
language (e.g., the critical discourse analysis of how various
media report gender variations in the brain), and sociolinguistics
(e.g., the social and linguistic features of the local Upper
Peninsula dialect of American English, spoken in the Keweenaw
and surrounding areas; and the influences of standardizing forces
in language upon dialect variation). She also is interested
in the application of discourse and gender analyses to electronic
or computer-mediated discourse.
