I'm very excited about this round-table and the questions that it is asking. I am currently reading about various Community Service (CS) and Service Learning (SL) projects taking place both within and outside Composition Studies. These readings include Cushman's work, along with Herzberg's, and the book _Writing the Community_ put out by the AAHE. From these readings I've gathered the impression that social service can, indeed, be a valid form of learning and of teaching, and the benefits extend to ALL those who are involved -- teachers, students, community members, and organizations.

However, I can also see that CS and SL are still in their infancy stages, and that more research and theorizing needs to take place. Also, I haven't seen, yet, too many discussions on how issues of technology play into this framework.
