The Humanities Department at Michigan Tech is a diverse, interdisciplinary collection of people and programs. Undergraduate students can study Scientific and Technical Communication, Liberal Arts, Communication & Cultural Studies, English Education, and Pre-Law. Master's and Doctoral students work in many areas, including Rhetoric, Composition, Technical Communication, Philosophy, Cultural Studies, Communication, and Visual Studies. The Humanities Dept. is also home to the English as a Second Langugage Program.

The backgrounds of the 35 faculty in the department provide a rich resource for courses and programs of study in a number of additional subject areas. Their teaching and research have helped them to become nationally recognized in a number of disciplines.

The Humanities Department offers numerous ways for students to get involved. For example, the department is currently home to three publications:The Community Literacy Journal (a joint publication of Michigan Tech and University of Arizona), Pank (a review of new writing and art), and Blue Ice (a biannual publication of non-fiction). All three of these publications offer opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students to publish, edit, and play creative roles in the publishing process.

Michigan Tech is located on the Keweenaw Peninsula in Upper Michigan. Surrounded by spectacular Lake Superior, the area provides year-round outdoor recreational activities. The University hosts many cultural, intellectual, and social events for the campus and community, especially through its brand new Rosza Center for the Performing Arts.
