Super 8 Motel A block of rooms has been reserved at the Super 8 Motel, 1200 E. Lakeshore Drive, Houghton, approximately two blocks on a walking trail from campus on the Portage Lake waterfront. Rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please make your reservation by calling the motel directly at 906-482-2240; identify yourself as a participant in the "Writing New Media Summer Institute" to receive the conference rate of $56 for a single or double (plus applicable taxes), includes a continental breakfast.
After May 15, 2006 the rooms will be available on a space-available basis only. Most Writing New Media participants choose to stay at the Super 8 for its private, quiet atmosphere. It is the second-closest (and closest chain) motel to campus, approximately 3/4 mile along a walk/bike/rollerblade path.
MTU Apartments, Daniell Heights Housing is also available in the MTU Apartments, Daniell Heights. The estimated rates for 8-14 days range from $350 for a one-bedroom apartment to $476 for a two-bedroom apartment, plus 6% tax. Deluxe suites with air-conditioning are also available. Cash and checks are accepted, and arrangements to use credit cards must be made in advance. The Daniell Heights apartments are a 10 minute downhill walk to the Walker Arts and Humanities Building, where the Writing New Media workshop will be held. Some participants enjoy this morning and evening walk, while others prefer the solidarity of staying at the Super 8 with easy access to other CIWIC participants.
Wadsworth Hall Housing is also available in the Wadsworth Hall (located across the Highway from the Rozsa Center) on the Michigan Technological University campus. Some participants choose to stay in the residence halls, and they enjoy the community atmosphere of the "dorms." Wadsworth Hall has regular rooms available with private bathrooms down the hall and rooms with a private bathroom. This year's rates for regular rooms are $26.50 for a single and $35 double per night. Rates for private bathroom rooms are $34 for a single and $43.50 for a double. Every 7th consecutive night is free. Add 6% sales tax. Rent a refrigerator at $5 per week plus tax. Participants pay for accommodations upon arrival.
